A chance to tell your Travelling Tales

Stop Climate Chaos

Would you like to give up your car or other high carbon transport for six weeks and share your experience with others?

Stop Climate Chaos is looking for a small group of volunteers from around Scotland to join its travelling tales project.  To do so we will ask you to try to use low carbon travel for six weeks this autumn and to blog about it.

We are looking for someone from an eco-congregation to volunteer. We can’t pay you but Stop Climate Chaos will provide help with blogging and with sharing your stories.

If you are up for this challenge and for the chance to influence Scotland’s great transport debate you can find out more at :

An Eco-Congregation Network for Moray

We are holding a meeting on Monday 2nd September 2013, 7.30pm at The New Room, St Giles Church, High Street, Elgin, Moray IV30 1LF to explore setting up an Eco-Congregation network in the Moray area!  There are already seventeen different Eco-Congregation networks (see http://www.ecocongregation.org/scotland/networks.html) established across the country in areas from Orkney and Aberdeen to Glasgow, Edinburgh, South Lanarkshire and Dumfries and Galloway.

If you live in the Moray area, this meeting is for you if:

  • you know nothing about Eco-Congregation but would like to do more to care for creation
  • you are just beginning to think about becoming an eco-congregation
  • you are already registered with us but would like to meet with and learn from other local eco-congregations

The aim of our ecumenical networks is to support each other by exchanging ideas and information about how to get started and then develop the spiritual, practical and community aspects of creation care.  The evening will include:

  • a  session on what you have to do to become an eco-congregation (the process is easy and helps give ideas of what to do next!)
  • a chance to hear from each other and gain inspiration from the projects that are on-going in local congregations and parishes
  • a look at how the new network will be organised in the future

Please email margaret@ecocongregation.org.uk if you would like to attend.

An Agenda for the meeting is available on the link below:

Local Networks Seminar 2013

The Local Networks Seminar will take place on Saturday 7th September 2013, 11am – 3.30pm in Dunblane Cathedral Halls.

The seminar is a great opportunity for active members of our (now 17!) local networks to get together, exchange ideas, learn from each other and discuss issues of common concern. Trevor Jamison, our new Environmental Chaplain, is to lead a session on “Ways of Understanding the Human Role in Creation”.  There will be a “Swap Shop”:  an opportunity to swap ideas and information with other representatives from networks across the country and discussion of “Members’ Topics” on a diverse range of subjects from plastics to greening lifestyles and growing Eco-Congregation membership locally.

The full programme can be downloaded here and if you would like further information, please contact margaret@ecocongregation.org.uk

Castle RePaint Scotland – Paint Available to Help Community Projects

Fife Based Project Diverts Paint From Landfill To Help Community Projects

Castle Re-Paint

A Fife based social enterprise is aiming to cut the millions of litres of paint wasted in Scotland each year.  Castle RePaint Scotland is working closely with local authorities to collect unwanted paint and to supply paint for reuse at low cost to community groups and organisations across Scotland.

Alan Stewart, Site Operations Manager for RePaint, said:

“We have been knocked out by the amount of paint that has been donated by householders for reuse. It’s clear that people in Scotland do not want to see paint going into landfill. We can now supply paint that has been checked for quality from as little as £1 per litre to help community groups and organisations across Scotland.”

“We have every kind and every colour of paint available. Whether your group needs to repaint the office or whether you have an entire community centre needing painted, we are here to help you save money.”

“If you or a community project near you is in need of affordable paint to carry out a well over-due makeover then Castle RePaint is the place to contact.”

Castle RePaint Scotland is part of the Castle Furniture Project based in Cupar. The Glenrothes Site is now recycling paint and refurbishing white goods.
