From Penicuik
Take the A766 past the High School and continue for 4 miles when the road joins with the A702. Continue for a further 2 miles to thevillageofCarlops.
In Carlops
The church is on the right hand side of the main road half way through the village. Opposite the church on the left hand side of the road is a car park. If this is full it can be used as a turning point and parking is allowed along the main road facing back intoEdinburgh.
Unfortunately there is no suitable evening public transport to the village so car sharing is the best we can do Eco-wise!
Past events
The inaugural meeting of the network took place on Monday 26th March 2012 at the Carlops Parish Church. You can access the minutes from the meeting by clicking on the link: Network minutes 26-03-12
At the meeting representatives of eight churches, situated in the Esk and Tweed area, met. Speakers from Carlops, Eddleston, Lyne and Manor, Peebles Old, Penicuik North, Penicuik Sacred Heart and the parishes of Upper Tweeddale, gave short presentations describing the ‘Eco’ activities of their churches.
Claudia Beamish (see photo), MSP for the South of Scotland and Shadow Minister for the Environment and Climate Change, then cut a cake to celebrate the event and, after refreshments and a chance to exchange ideas, the guest speaker was introduced.
Ewan Aitken is Secretary of the Church and Society Council of the Church of Scotland and Chairman of Eco-Congregation Scotland. He gave a most inspiring talk about the effect that churches, working with their communities, can have in helping to spread the message of the need to live a more sustainable lifestyle. He praised what was already being done and urged those present to carry the work forward by sharing ideas and activities.
The next meeting would be hosted by The Old Parish Church of Peebles and would be held in October 2012.
