Church leaders call for climate justice at Warsaw conference

Scottish Minister of Environment and Climate Change Paul Wheelhouse spoke at a major church conference in Warsaw timed to coincide with the UN climate change negotiations.  The conference has been organised by CIDSE, an international alliance of Catholic development organisations.  Other speakers included European Commissioner Hedegaard, Head of Holy See Delegation and Nuncio to Poland Archbishop Migliore, and Bangladeshi Bishop Gomes.  This was one of a number of church events in Warsaw. Philippa Bonella, of SCIAF who is a director of Eco-Congregtion Scotland reports from Warsaw:

We had a wonderful (first ever in Poland) Mass for climate justice, followed by an ecumenical service on Sunday.  Cardinal Nycz of Warsaw gave an impressive homily and prayed for environmentalists, then he attended the CIDSE conference where the  Polish Bishops’ Conference were also represented.
