The Guide and Gazette published an article covering the Eco-Congregation baton relay, which reached Monifieth last weekend:

A specially made wooden baton, inscribed with an ecological message, appeared at Monifieth Parish Church during last Sunday’s service.

Jim Culloch, eco-congregation convener, said: “The Davie Family featured prominently throughout the Service, with Ava, Farrah and Mia accompanied by mum Laura and grandmother Avril.

“The themed Service was based on our Christian perspective of being respectful to the environment by promoting and contributing to sustainability and witness to our local community in, “Caring for God’s Creation.”

The Baton relay is travelling to many churches throughout Scotland before being taken to The UN Climate Change Conference in Paris, in December 2015.

The Baton is made from recycled church furniture at Greyfriars Recycling of Wood, in Edinburgh. It bears the message, “Time for Climate Justice. Churches in Scotland demand a deal in Paris December 2015”. It was launched by Aileen McLeod MSP, Minister for Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform at the Eco-Congregation Scotland AGM on April 25.
