Nature in decline in the UK

The State of Nature report 2016 has documented significant declines in British species revealing that one in ten species now face extinction. You can read the BBC summary here, and see the Guardian’s visual ‘winners and losers’ list here .

The State of Nature report is compiled by leading professionals from 53 wildlife organisations to present the clearest picture to date of the status of our native species across land and sea. The report reveals that over half (56%) of UK species assessed have declined since 1970, while more than one in ten (1,199 species) of the nearly 8000 species assessed in the UK are under threat of disappearing from our shores altogether.
