1st award to Helensburgh URC!

Helensburgh United Reformed Church achieved their first Eco-Congregation Award!

On 25th April, Helensburgh URC was the second United Reformed Church to achieve an Eco-Congregation Award. The assessors commended them particularly on

  • the programme of worship led by the worship team
  • their practical energy measures, which have been very effective in reducing the church’s carbon emissions
  • their contribution to the Helensburgh and Lomond local network that has been important in getting it off the ground
  • and
  • their participation in the “Commitment to Life” initiative.

Congratulations to Coaltown of Balgonie URC, who are the first United Reformed Church congregation to achieve an Eco-Congregation Award!

The award assesors commended the congregation particularly on
– The awareness demonstrated by the congregation of their relationship with the environment and the active steps taken recently to deepen that awareness.
– The considerable range of activity, which includes other community groups, relative to the size of the congregation.
– The well organised and inspirational leadership of the Rev Price.
– The willingness to undertake and commitment to further work.

Menstrie Parish Church

Menstrie Parish Church gained their first Eco-Congregation Award ! Congratulations!

The award assessors commended the congregation particularly on their ongoing commitment to eco-congregation work, which is demonstrated by the careful and detailed carbon footprinting and the wide range of environmental concerns in regular worship and spiritual life of the church. It is also well supported by the Minister’s knowledge and all-pervading interest in the environment, which gives a very strong base to a variety of links between faith and environmental concerns. They were also very impressed by the involvement of all the age-ranges in environmental activities and the very good start that has been made in measuring the energy consumption of the church buildings over a year, analysing the results and then committing to finding ways of reducing carbon emissions. Figures are to be submitted for a second year, which should yield a very useful comparison and help identify the causes of specific anomalies, as well as potential reductions.
