Report of our 100th Award Celebration

Eco-Congregation activists from around Scotland met at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Clarkston on Saturday to celebrate this parish receiving the 100th Eco-Congregation Scotland award. The celebration was led by parish priest Fr Jim Duggan and Rev Ewan Aitken, chair of Eco-Congregation Scotland. Michael Martin and Jim Seenan of St Josephs gave a presentation on the work the parish had done to achieve the award and Philippa Bonella of SCIAF spoke about the connection between climate justice, poverty and the environment.

The presentation was made by Councillor Alistair Carmichael, Provost of East Renfrewshire Council whose ward includes St Joseph’s Church.

One unexpected guest was Ken Mackintosh MSP, who interrupted a family birthday party to pop in and congratulate members of the parish on their achievement.

Here are some photographs of the event taken by Rev Mitchell Bunting, ecumenical officer of the United Reformed Church. We hope to have more photographs and press coverage soon.
