At a meeting of the Moray eco-congregation network held at Bellie church in Fochabers on 17 March there a discussion led by Adrian Shaw, Climate Change Officer at the Church of Scotland about whether churches should be investing in fossil fuel companies .

Participants were passionate about the need to engage with businesses about climate change and that this could involve using shareholder power to bring about change or by selling investments in fossil fuel companies.  ‘Doing nothing is not an option’ was a clear theme of the meeting.

The Church of Scotland is examining its policy on investing in fossil fuel companies and some churches have already decided to sell shares in such companies.   You can be part of the discussion – let us know if you are interested and we can come to your church or network to hear your views.  Please get in touch!
