World Day of Prayer is an international, ecumenical, prayer movement initiated and carried out by Christian women in more than 180 countries and over 1000 languages. Every year Christians of many traditions and all ages, celebrate a common day of prayer on the first Friday in March.
This year, women from Suriname have provided material for Bible studies, prayer, and worship, on the theme, All God’s Creation is Very Good. The date is Friday, 2nd March 2018.
It reflects the situation of a country located only a couple of metres above sea level, with 90% of the population living on the small coastal strip, and increasingly threatened by flooding. The rest of Suriname is covered with tropical rain forest, offering rich biodiversity, but facing challenges about pollution from gold mining and the impact of drilling for oil.
The support material for Bible studies and a service outline, and information about services being held across Scotland, are available from World Day of Prayer Scotland here http://www.wdpscotland.org.uk/Downloads.html
