WWF’s Earth Hour: 29th March, 8.30pm

Eco- Congregation Scotland are encouraging churches to organise an event for their local communities in support of The World Wide Fund for Nature’s event entitled Earth Hour.

This will take place on Saturday 29th March at 8.30pm when millions of people across the world will switch off their lights. This is seen as a huge symbolic show of support for action on climate change and for a more sustainable future.

Carlops Eco-Group are proposing to hold an event in church by candle light during that hour when those present will have the chance to contribute a poem, piece of prose or music, a song or perhaps just enjoy listening. We may share short times of reflection when we can each contemplate the state of the environment and what we might do to help.

This will not be a religious service. It is envisaged as an ‘eco’ event, and hopefully we will hear light-hearted as well as serious contributions.

The church heating will be switched on! This is a ‘light’ event and not an ‘energy’ one.

Refreshments will be served.

Whether or not you like the sound of our Earth Hour event you are invited to join people all over the world who will be switching off the lights in their own homes during that hour.
